Kate Cheney Chappell - Peregrine Press, Limited Edition
"What I love about being part of Peregrine Press is the diversity of the
artists' styles, ages and backgrounds, and the free exchange of ideas."
- Kate Cheney Chappell
Peregrine Press is a co-operative artists' printmaking press in Portland, Maine.
Founded in 1991, it is one of only a handful in the country. Kate has been a member
since 1996. The 30 members maintain a shared studio in the Bakery Building on Pleasant
Street. Equipment in the studio includes two French Tool etching presses, as well as an
acid room, and a darkroom for photo-printing processes. We make a variety of fine arts
prints using many different methods, from traditional etching to experimental monotypes
and collagraphs. Artists co-operate in
every aspect of running the shop and the non-profit, and by showing together, and supporting
each other. The group also reaches out to the community through their scholarship program with the
University of Southern Maine and the Maine College of Art as well as their Kate Mahoney
Lecture & Visiting Artist series.
